I love this restaurant! Great prices and even better food!!This is the1st time my husband and I have eaten at this restaurant and we were more than pleased with it. We went for Happy Hour and we sat on the patio, so we could enjoy the water mister, especially since it was 88 degrees out.
Our server, Gabbi, was outstanding. She was friendly, outgoing and helpful. Rosco, a very friendly guy, brought our food out to us and made sure that we had all that we needed to complete our meal. TJ, the assistant manager, popped out and made sure that every table had exactly what they needed to enjoy their dining experience.
The cocktails, Coronaritas, were amazing and the food was absolutely delicious with tons of flavor. We're going back again tonight!
A huge thank you to the staff at this location.

HOLY COW!!  Talk about the salt usage here!!!

There are several things I look for in a restaurant.

    1) Decor
    2) Experience
    3) Service
    4) Food vs cost

Of course on the boarder is meant to be like any other chain restaurant. There isn't anything special about the style. Yes they have empty bottles hanging from the ceiling and rice shakers glued to the wall. At least the bathrooms mimic the authentic Mexico decor in that they are dank and dirty. Ok ok I'm staying on one topic to long.

Experience was subpar and expected. There isn't any type of flare to the experience here just come to the resultant wait 16 minutes to be seated while there are only 3 other couples in the entire restaurant. Then be seated and along the way I have to grab my own high chair. Then food is served fast so that means they are heating it up and not fresh.

Service was just awful our waitress Marissa did not even look like she wanted to be there. The moment we sat down, she looked annoyed and pissed. She never offered the other people water in our group and she was just standoffish and just very short. I understand people have personal issues however, it should never be brought to a work environment that requires even the slightest crack of a smile to get a decent tip. Unfortunately, for her she never got her frown to turn upside down, so her tip reflected her attitude. No water was offered to my wife or mother in law. No refill was asked for their drinks. Etc......Marissa needs to work in the kitchen or get retrained.

Food..........the quality was not that good. Ok, I have to ask are there salt shaker tops to the salt shakers in the back kitchen??? It seemed like they poured the entire contents of salt all over the tortilla chips. I could feel my legs swelling just eating the chips...man the salsa they provided with the chips was free, however it tasted like they purposely scooped out all the chunky pieces and left nothing but the sauce then they added more water and 4 entire salt shaker contents to the mix. Yes.....it was this bad. The nachos my family got was expected to be ok...nope it was just salty.....My god I was expecting cameras to burst out of the back restaurant yelling, this was staged to see your reaction, this is all fake!!! No, the only person walking from out back was Marissa just as pissed off as she was when she came to our table to great us when we where seated...

Thats why I gave 1 star out of 5 stars...

    Customer service? No thanks.
Tonight, we visited On the Border,as we've done many times in the past. We're down, visiting from Prescott, just looking for good mexican food.
As empty as the restaurant was, we were kind of surprised as to the lack of service, but we see that alot... moving on. The waiter finally arrived, took our drink order and asked if we would like any guacamole or queso. We were good.
I looked through the menu and selected a light veggie bowl. The picture of the rice, beans and avocado sold me.
I held the menu open and pointed to the picture of my selection.
I sat there, nibbling on chips and the little bit of salsa we were served, and looked forward to my veggie fiesta bowl with mushrooms and avocado. When I received my dinner, it was missing the avocado. I called the waiter over and pointed out that there was no avocado.
His response was that they had a shortage of avocado... They were preserving what they had for those that ordered the guacamole... "Company Policy".
Can I have a little side of guac then?
    No, sorry... Company policy.
So, I ordered a meal that features an ingredient that you HAVE back there, but you can't give me the main feature of my meal because it's company policy to reserve the ingredient for those who might come in later?

To say the least, I was floored!!! I ordered a meal that featured an image of avocado... yet, I was informed that the company policy was not to hold up to ingredients of meals that current customers ordered... but to instead, withhold those ingredients... just in case some future customer came in later to order something else with that ingredient. Coincidentally a more expensive, higher profit item on the menu.

I spoke to the waiter and the manager, and both smiled as they informed me that this is simply how it will be... company policy.
We received our bill and the meal was actually priced $1 more than the menu.

On the Border has extremely mediocre food, processed tasting salsa... but we've gone back because the ambiance is good and the food is fair.

I am a small business owner, so this experience put the nail in the coffin.  Customer service should be any business's priority. How on earth can it be ok to treat the future potential money spenders with a higher priority than the current customers?

I was told that this limitation would last for a few more weeks.  This is not a 1 night problem. This is a problem that stems from company policy. Why not use the ingredients to satisfy a customer that sits in your restaurant and take a chance on disappointing the future customer... FOR SHAME On The Border!!

I would rather go to a place that has horrible food with great respect to the people paying for it, over a place that would rather take a chance at wasting food for the potential future customer, over the ones currently sitting in their restaurant.

    PATHETIC!

By far the worst experience handed us a happy hour menu for drinks and we ordered - but at Checkout they told us Happy hour was only at the bar???

Fajitas were very weak in portions.

    Bathrooms were very dirty

Look at the condition of the catering truck before you go in..

Managers looking at cost rather then a guest satisfaction.

My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time here, even being Friday night everything was quick and delicious! Our server Shannon gave us the best service I've seen in a very long time! The manager, TJ, even came to check in with us at the end of our meal to make sure everything was good; we ranted about how great the service was and it gave him the biggest smile. Nice to see a wonderful and devoted team in a restaurant these days! 1000% recommended.
